Last night’s dream involved taking a college-level math class in a medieval fantasy setting where you had to pay actual money for your food, and then a wizard turned up in the middle of class to explain that this whole thing had been a ploy to get us all to spend lots of time learning a really obscure version of the derivative, so that we would have the right knowledge to defeat a big scary robot that was about to attack us all, and the class had no exam and was 100% optional
I really enjoyed this dream and it feels like it took the concept of “you have to learn this stuff before it’s worth much and it’s not a waste of time, but you also don’t have to do this homework if it’s too hard or not interesting and you’re not being graded on it,” and ran with it in the opposite direction, in a way that felt satisfying and real, and not like I was doing the “fool that I was,” or something
